#6: Roosevelt Luster, III

Roosevelt Luster, III Roosevelt Luster III is Superintendent of Maintenance for Progress Energy’s Plant Weatherspoon. Roosevelt manages a $3.6million budget and supplies support to keep 328-MWs available with a department of 16 employees. Before assuming his role as Superintendent, he was Operations Supervisor at Plant Bartow.

Roosevelt started his career in the electric utility industry with Southern Company in 1997 and joined Progress Energy in 2005. He has held positions of increasing responsibility, including senior engineer, supervisor of maintenance, and supervisor of operations.

Always active in the community, Roosevelt led efforts to raise $30,000 and $14,000 respectively for United Way and Junior Achievement of Central Alabama. Also, Roosevelt is a director of Jessie L. Lewis Tennis and Central Alabama Chapter of National Society of Black Engineers Foundations. In 2004 Roosevelt was awarded the Regents Award for Excellence in Philanthropy by the Tennessee Board of Regents. The award recognizes individuals, corporations and organizations that have devoted themselves to giving to the state's public colleges and universities. Roosevelt established an endowment fund to support Tennessee State University engineering seniors during their final semester, and helped establish internships and a lecture series.

Roosevelt earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering degree from Tennessee State University in 1997 and an MBA in Finance from University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2003. Roosevelt resides in Raleigh, NC with is wife Raquel, his son Xavier, and daughter Olivia.
