#23. Dr. S. Keith Hargrove, Sr., CMfgE
S. Keith Hargrove, Sr., currently serves as Chairperson of the Department of Industrial, Manufacturing & Information Engineering Department in the Clarence Mitchell, Jr. School of Engineering at Morgan State University, Baltimore, Maryland. He most recently completed the Harvard Administrative Fellowship Program - 2005-2006, in the Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences in Cambridge, MA. He received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN as a General Motors Fellow, the M.S. from The University of Missouri at Rolla as a recipient of the National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science, Inc. (GEM) Fellowship, and the Ph.D. in Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering from The University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA as a recipient of the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) Fellowship. He formerly held the position as Assistant to the Dean and a tenured Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering at Tuskegee University. He has worked as a manufacturing engineer for the General Electric Company, a research engineer for Oak Ridge National Laboratories in Tennessee, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD., and as a Research Scientist at The University of Michigan’s Center for Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems.
He has received several awards as an instructor and community service to the university, including the 2002 GEM Alumni Award for Mentoring. During his tenure at Tuskegee University, the College of Engineering received the highest number of national GEM Awards in 1995, and has mentored numerous students to obtain graduate degrees throughout his academic career. His research interest is in statistical applications in manufacturing and minority engineering education, and has published in both areas.
He previously served as President of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Baltimore Chapter, and now President and Senior Member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers in Baltimore, a member of “Black Professional Men” of Baltimore, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
An avid reader, he also is a regular speaker and consultant for several Baltimore area local schools in science education and manufacturing, and is also a Certified Manufacturing Engineer. He is also strongly committed to mentoring young African American males in supporting their pursuit of education, entrepreneurship, employment opportunities, and family stability.
